This is a third grade homework assignment. Since I volunteer part-time as a teacher assistant, I was grading this. So what’s the big deal? I have a deep, dark secret… I rewrote it into a fanfiction. Happy Easter, little ankle biters!

Just finished watching Trailer #2 for "Epic"...

I’m really excited for it, but something only JUST occurred to me… It’s basically a gender-swapped Ferngully: The Last Rainforest. Is it just me?

I think you'd make an amazing pre-spell Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle omg <3

Daaw, really? :3 I like the sound of that. Hm, I’ll consider working on a costume. Though I’m imagining myself as Sophie in one of my favorite scenes, where she’s racing the witch up the stairs. That would be hilarious!  I’ll get I should find a silver wig while I’m at it, just to change up the look once in a while… Thanks for the suggestion! ♥

You are Amazing

Yes, you. You who liked or reblogged the post, “Cool Touch Tissues”.

It’s been 24 hours since I made the post, and I’ve got 117 notes. And coming from a writer who struggles to get just one single note on any given post (or reviews on my FF.net stories, for that matter).

To this point, I’ve added everyone’s name to my monthly thank you note (see the January list for example). I’m going to try to stay up to date and add everyone’s name in between now until the 28th at 11:59 P.M. to be included in the February note, but honestly I’m really happily overwhelmed with the amount of response (that, and my browser crashed twice while adding everyone’s URL in), so I’ll try to update as much as I can before the end of the month.

I love you all so much, it hurts.

I really didn’t put any effort into the post, either. All I did was take a picture of a tissue box, slapped a Jack Frost border on it, and added a really bad joke about it. Was I really that funny?

Final Thoughts on Annie Awards

Remember when I said in my post, “After-Thoughts on Annie Awards“ that I would write more about it at a later time? I had meant the next day, not three weeks later. Well, instead of getting upset over it, I’ll do it now. Better late than never, right?

I can tell you I remember what it was like going to work on the following Monday. Everyone was disappointed about how the San Francisco 49ers had lost the Super Bowl. And there I was standing awkwardly to the side, saying, “Hey, how about those Annies?” Nobody understood… But I know you do, Tumblrians, and that’s why I love you.

Also, I tuned into the Annies a bit late, and came in when Heidi Smith won her award for Character Design on ParaNorman (whoo-hoo!). Because the Annie Awards webpage didn’t do live updating on their nominee list, so I didn’t find out that Johanne Matte won the Storyboarding category for her achievement on Rise of the Guardians until the next morning. I don’t know if any of you have seen any of the storyboards for that film, but it’s one of the best I’ve ever seen for an animated film, so I’m pretty ecstatic about the win.

I was a little shocked that Jon Brion didn’t get a nomination for composing the music to ParaNorman, and I was betting that Alexandre Desplat would get the win for the epic score to Rise of the Guardians (I’m just going to throw out there and say that I personally love the work he did for Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium in 2007). And like I’ve said before, I was a little surprised that Wreck-It Ralph ended up winning the award, but I’m still cool with it (okay, I really don’t think Skrillex really fit in with the other names, but whatever).

The last category I want to talk about is Voice Acting. My personal vote was in between Kelly MacDonald as Merida in Brave and Jude Law as Pitch in Rise of the Guardians. I was at first all for MacDonald, and thinking that Law would walk away the award. Then I thought about how well Law conveyed the hidden contexts in Pitch’s speech through his voice performance. So now my vote was for Law, with MacDonald as runner-up. And then the award goes to Alan Tudyk as King Candy in Wreck-It Ralph. Again, I’m not disappointed in the selection, but I really wasn’t expecting that win. Didn’t anyone else think it was random?

There’s plenty more I could say about the Annie Awards, but that’s the majority I had wanted to share, and it was bugging me that I didn’t finish off my thoughts in my last post. 2012 was just a very good year for animation, so I’m only curious to know what 2013 is going to bring us. Epic? Monsters University? Frozen? I think I’m set.

I’m going to tie this post off with thanking those who added notes to my previous posts about the Annies:

I’d like to thank justanotherbloghere, wishyouwereindirectionerland, jigglypuffremix, dimensionalmagic for liking and mrs-cumbersmaug for reblogging my post, “And Mabel Pines wins an Annie…”

I’d like to thank tmiiwonkothesane for responding to my post, “After-Thoughts on Annie Awards”, with “Not enough host time”. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I’d like to thank nicktendosquad, for liking my post, “After-Thoughts on Annie Awards“…

Oh, well hello there, Jack. Didn’t expect to see you here. By the way, do you ever visit California in the winter? I got all of my preschool students to believe you make all the frost in the morning. Hope you like your new believers!

Animated Oscar Shorts at BlueLight Cinema

With only a couple of hours left before the Oscars start, I feel now would be the appropriate time to share this. I had the opportunity to watch all of the nominated animation shorts last Wednesday at BlueLight Cinemas.

BlueLight Cinemas is a wonderfully crappy theatre that shows movies that have been released several months prior for about $5. Once in a while, the theatre will show special engagements. Usually that would be a Bollywood film, but for the past two weeks, it was this:

image

That’s right, the winners of last year’s Oscar animated short (The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore), William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg hosted the event (on the screen, not in person. Though I probably would’ve died and gone to heaven if that were to ever happen), talking about their experience with animation.

Now remember when I said that BlueLight Cinemas is a wonderfully crappy theatre. Emphasis on the crappy part. Because it’s a local family business, the theatre gets their film reels recycled, which is why all the tickets are cheap. Having the opportunity to watch the shorts and Joyce and Oldenburg’s behind-the scenes tidbits was amazing (I hadn’t seen any of the films prior to this viewing, with the exception of Paperman), but there was a serious lighting problem with the projector, and all of the films were dimly-lit. Still, I really can’t complain all that much. When you’ve got a chance to watch a movie you missed several months back, and for a cheaper price, you can’t really pass the opportunity up.

In addition to showing this year’s Oscar-nominated shorts (Adam and Dog, Fresh Guacamole, Head Over Heels, Maggie Simpson in “The Longest Daycare”, and Paperman), several highly commmended animated shorts were shown, including Abiogenesis, Dripped, and The Gruffalo’s Child.

Before this event, I had my money bet on Paperman, not because it was the only one of the five shorts I had actually seen, but because I never seen an animated short that makes me bawl every single time as much as Paperman does. Every. Single. Time. Although now Head Over Heels have been pulling on my heartstrings, so I wouldn’t mind seeing that win the award.

There also was a bonus to all of this. After buying my tickets, I bought a kid’s snack pack… only for the sole reason to obtain this box:

image

A small popcorn… Lemonade (because I don’t drink soda)… and fruit snacks…

image

Just for this box…

image

Don’t judge me, I know you’d do the same. But that wasn’t the bonus I was talking about. Not realizing how early I had arrived, I walked right into the theatre after buying tickets and food, to find myself catching the last third of the Rise of the Guardians showing. I’m so glad that I didn’t get kicked out for watching the ending of a movie that I didn’t pay for (which was probably worth $1.50 at BLC anyway, but still), because I was simply over the moon! Pun intended.

If any of you are around the Bay Area, Tuesday, February 26th is the last day to check out the shorts! There are two showtimes at 7:15 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. Tickets are $5.

Well, see you all after the Oscars! Who are you voting for?
