This was Week One (Part One)… Goodbye Summer, Hello Tumblr

Summer has been cut short for me this year, as it had done so last year. So now I’m crawling out of the Tumblr cave and resume posting regularly again. It sounds contradictory, doesn’t it? I’m busy now, so I’m going to writing blog posts? Well, here’s how it goes:

The last week of June was finals week for me. After five years of college, this was going to be my last quarter at this school. Unless I decide to take a class just for my own interest, but I am definitely won’t be taking any classes during the fall. Actually, I had gotten hired as an assistant teacher at a new preschool program. Since I decided to take a year or so off from school, I wanted to focus on working.

Since most grade schools end mid-June and start at the end of August (and it seems to me it starts earlier each and every year), and my college’s academic year end on the last week of June and start at the end of September, I lose a month’s worth of vacation since I go to work. This would be evidence that my summers are cut short.

Last year, I only had one week worth of a break because I took a student teaching course over the summer. This would also be evidence to why I had been so burnt out, going to school full-time and working for free part (though nearly full)- time. I wouldn’t be exaggerating very much at all if I said that I literally had no personal time.

So going back to the end of June, after I finished my last final, I thought about how I would start up writing again. Specifically, updating all of my stories on Fanfiction (yes, I am a nerd. I won’t deny it). But then, rather than being productive for personal projects, my brain went on vacation.

I have been trying to get myself to write at least 80 words a day (based on a challenge thatukulelechic created in 2009, where you write at least 80 words a day for 80 days), but over the course of the summer, posts and updates were no where near where I had wanted it to be.

I’m hoping that, now that I am in a new routine, I can get myself to schedule in writing time. So here is the first of a weekly series of posts- “This was Week #…”. I’m saying goodbye to summer early, I’m saying hello to Tumblr!
